Teaming Up is an organization dedicated to building sustainable partnerships between collegiate athletic teams and women from communities with the highest maternal mortality rates. Through these partnerships, Teaming Up will establish a unified effort to improve maternal health by fostering sustainable relationships between women worldwide, raising awareness and advocacy on behalf of safe motherhood, and providing support to enable local initiatives and health education programs in high risk countries.

Each athletic team participating in Teaming Up sponsors a community from one of 30 priority countries, identified by the White Ribbon Alliance as the countries with the highest maternal mortality rates. Participating teams lead a self-organized advocacy and fundraising campaign throughout the year and all funding directly supports the implementation of the UbuMama project in the partner country.

UbuMama is an arts based safe motherhood project dedicated to educating, empowering and encouraging women in the developing world to take control of their own bodies and make motherhood safer in their community. The UbuMama project is also committed to bringing the challenges of safe motherhood into public view with an authentic voice to hold the world accountable to the promise of improving maternal health.

Teaming Up began in September 2006 with an initial partnership formed between the Yale Women's Ice Hockey team and the Keiskamma group of Hamburg, South Africa.

In October of 2007, Meg Gill (Yale '07) ran the Chicago Marathon in honor and support of women in Accra, Ghana.

This year, Teaming Up will be working with various collegiate women's ice hockey teams. We hope that you will visit each team's respective website to learn more about their partnership and their fundraising strategies and campus events.

Through these partnerships women around the world will stand in solidarity for safe motherhood. We will continue to update this website as new partnerships are created. We are hoping to support a total of 10 communities this year. If you or your team is interested in participating in this project, please contact us.
